Jokowi: Don’t Let Rich People Occupy Flats

Flats in the capital city keep being improved. If previously no one wanted to live there, now everyone wants it.

Be careful. Later rich people would get in line (to live in flats). Even I would love to live here

Because of that, Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo asks the flat managements to be more observant in handling the people who will live there and do not let the flats being occupied by those who are not entitled to.

As known, Pulogebang Flat is entitled for residents who are being relocated from Riario Dam and Pulogebang. This is part of Jakarta Provincial Government’s program in reservoirs revitalization to overcome flood problems.

“Be careful. Later rich people would get in line (to live in flats). Even I would love to live here. The design is better,” said Jokowi when visiting the Pulogebang Flat, East Jakarta, Tuesday (8/5).

From Pulogebang Flat, Jokowi went to Jatinegara Kaum Flat which has two blocks consist of 200 units. This flat is dedicated for residents who are affected by the normalization work of Ciliwung River.

“This (Jatinegara Kaum Flat’s construction) finished in (upcoming) September,” he said.

As for Jatinegara Barat Flat which located on Jalan Jatinegara Barat, East Jakarta, its construction is carried out by the Public Works Ministry although the land belongs to Jakarta Provincial Government. This flat has two towers, each consists of 260 units and 16-story high, and is designated for Kampung Pulo residents.

“There are 520 units here. (The construction) finished in (upcoming) December,” told Jokowi.
